Common Types Of Truck Accidents

TruckAcc

With thousands of trucks on the road every day in Florida, many truck accidents are bound to happen. There are many different types of truck accidents, and the type of accident that occurs can have a substantial impact on the injuries that are inflicted on the victims of the crash. At Earnhart Law in Delray Beach, our team of dedicated legal professionals is prepared to zealously advocate for you after an accident. If you are interested in learning more, call or contact our office today for a free case evaluation.

Jackknife Accidents

Jackknife accidents occur when the forces involved in the accident force the cab to fold in on its cargo container, forming a “V” shape or angle as it skids down the road. This type of accident happens most often when the roads are wet, the driver is moving too fast, or they try to break too quickly. Truck drivers lose all capacity to control the vehicle when a jackknife accident occurs.

Tire Blowouts

Tire blowouts are another common type of truck accident. These vehicles are often referred to as “eighteen-wheelers” because of the number of wheels on each truck. Even a single blowout of a tire can be enough to cause the truck to swerve, topple, and crash into other, smaller vehicles on the road. It is critical that truck drivers and trucking companies regularly inspect the tire for signs of potential blowout and get them replaced immediately.

Wide Turn Accidents

When a truck needs to make a right turn, the driver must swing left first in order to go right. This is known as a wide turn, and if the driver of the truck is not careful he can crash into other vehicles on both sides of the truck when making this maneuver. Vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians can all be struck during a wide turn.

Blind Spot Accidents

Blind spot accidents are another common type of truck accident in Florida. Large, commercial trucks have large blind spots on either side of the vehicle because of its length and size. Truck drivers must always be cognizant of the vehicles around them, especially before changing lanes. When a truck driver fails to check their blind spot and makes a lane change with another vehicle next to them, the results can be devastating.

Rear End Accidents

The last type of common truck accident is a rear end accident. This type of accident occurs when a truck driver is not paying attention and strikes the rear end of another vehicle on the road. Reat end accidents happen most often at intersections and on the highway when there is an unanticipated stop.
